SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a grim reminder of the repercussions for failing to comply with sex offender registration laws, Timothy Donald Fialdini, 52, from Sacramento, has been sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison for his failure to register as a sex offender.
Fialdini’s transgressions began in August 2015 when he moved to Sacramento from Nevada and intentionally neglected to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). His previous convictions in Nevada included charges of open and gross lewdness, culminating in a 2009 conviction for sexual battery upon a female victim and an intentional sex act in public.
On November 30, 2015, Fialdini added to his list of offenses by indecently exposing himself to an adult female. His arrest followed on March 8, 2016, when deputy U.S. Marshals apprehended him at a Sacramento County park with the aid of state and local law enforcement.
This case was a result of an intensive investigation led by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sex Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Team. The SAFE Team, a multi-agency task force in Northern California, is dedicated to monitoring sex offenders and investigating registration violations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Rodriguez handled the prosecution.
Fialdini will also be under three years of supervised release following his prison term. His failure to comply with SORNA has cost him nearly three years behind bars and a lifetime of monitoring, underscoring the severity of the consequences for non-compliance with sex offender registration laws.
