Safa Gobah, Cocaine Distribution, Pennsylvania 2016

ERIE, Pa. – A brazen cocaine courier from Ohio has pleaded guilty to distributing the deadly drug, federal authorities announced today.

Safa Gobah, 23, a former resident of Akron, Ohio, was found guilty of violating federal drug laws in a federal court in Erie, Pennsylvania. Gobah’s guilty plea was before United States District Judge David S. Cercone.

According to court documents, Gobah was part of a massive conspiracy that involved 18 co-defendants. From June 2013 to February 2015, Gobah worked with her co-conspirators to transport cocaine from the Houston, Texas area to Erie, Pennsylvania, and other locations. The cocaine was hidden in secret compartments in vehicles driven by Gobah and her associates.

One notable incident occurred on November 1, 2014, when Gobah was driving a load vehicle with a co-conspirator as a passenger. They were stopped by the Arkansas State Police near milepost 253 on Interstate 40. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle, and authorities found over 5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment.

The investigation that led to Gobah’s prosecution was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Arkansas State Police.

Gobah’s sentencing is scheduled for September 15, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, a fine of $4,000,000, or both.
