Philadelphia Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Armed Carjacking of FedEx Truck
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for his role in the armed carjacking of a FedEx truck in August 2022. Saikeen Dixon, 33, was sentenced to 147 months in prison and three years of supervised release by United States District Judge Gail A. Weilheimer.
Dixon and co-defendant Ronald Byrd, 37, were charged by superseding indictment in September 2023. In June of this year, both were convicted at trial of carjacking and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The incident occurred on August 10, 2022, when a FedEx Express driver was delivering packages to Temple Hospital in Philadelphia. A former FedEx employee, P.A., had been asking for a package addressed to ‘Universal Medical Inc’ at Temple Hospital, but the driver refused to give it to him. P.A. then met the driver’s supervisors, R.J. and D.J., and asked for the package again, but they also refused.
After finishing his deliveries, the FedEx driver drove his truck south on Broad Street towards the FedEx distribution center at 3600 Grays Ferry Avenue, with D.J. and R.J. following behind in their FedEx van. The black Jeep Cherokee that had been following the FedEx truck pulled in front of it at a red light, and Byrd got out and pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the driver. The driver jumped out of the passenger side door and ran into oncoming traffic, and Byrd climbed into the FedEx truck and drove away.
Byrd drove the FedEx truck across the Grays Ferry Bridge before pulling over and abandoning it. Investigators found that the package P.A. had been asking for contained over 9 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $500,000.
