San Jose, CA – The grim streets of Salinas were hit hard yesterday as Gregory Smith, better known by his aliases ‘OG Nutty’ and ‘GNutty,’ was sentenced to a decade in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine.
The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman, marks the culmination of an investigation that began with an illegal firearms crackdown in South Bay counties.
Smith, now 54 years old, was charged initially on November 1, 2021, and later filed on a one-count information on September 8, 2022. On April 9, 2024, he pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine, violating 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C).
According to court documents, Smith sold almost 42 grams of meth and a ghost gun in Salinas for $1,425 on February 10, 2021. Just one week later, he sold approximately 28 grams of the drug to the same individual.
The government’s sentencing memorandum highlighted Smith’s dangerous conduct to the community and his staggering 54 prior parole violations. In addition to his prison term, Smith was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Neal C. Hong prosecuted the case with the help of Sahib Kaur, and the investigation was led by the ATF, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Investigative Unit, Salinas Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol.
