Casper Man Sentenced to 170 Years for Child Pornography
A Casper man has been sentenced to 170 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography.
Salvador Salas, Jr., 32, was convicted by a jury after a three-day trial in January 2023. The court ordered Salas to pay $132,056 in restitution to cover the expenses for the victim’s care and treatment, as well as $600 in special assessments.
The investigation began when the minor victim, a 13-year-old girl, was taken to the emergency room in February 2021 after exhibiting signs of illicit substance intoxication. Her mother reported to the police that the minor victim had been at Salas’ home and had come home high.
Police executed a search warrant at Salas’ home and recovered methamphetamine, paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine use, cocaine, and buprenorphine. They also found child pornography on Salas’ electronic devices, including five videos and 47 photographs of the minor victim. The images depict Salas sexually abusing the victim.
Further investigation revealed that Salas had supplied the minor victim with drugs and had recorded their sex acts using his iPhone. Testing of the minor victim’s clothing revealed semen and Salas’ DNA in her panties.
U.S. Attorney Nicholas Vassallo said, “The evidence in this case demonstrated that Salas is a sexual predator – someone who manipulated people that trusted him. He used his relationship with the minor victim’s mother to gain access to the child. Once he had that access, he supplied the child with drugs, making her even more vulnerable to his sexual abuse.”
FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek added, “Those who exploit children will always be a focus of FBI resources. Our partners like the Casper Police Department enable us to identify, prioritize, and investigate individuals who victimize children and to prevent future abuse.”
