McALLEN, Texas – A San Antonio drug ring met its grim fate as Lucille Nicole Mendoza, 43, Debra Ann Sauceda, 54, and Julian Santiago Espinoza Jr., 32, were sentenced to lengthy prison terms after being caught with a staggering five kilograms of meth. The trio pleaded guilty on January 5, 2022, to conspiring to possess the illegal substance with intent to distribute.
Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane handed down sentences of 70 months each for Mendoza and Espinoza Jr., while Sauceda was sentenced to 60 months. Upon release from prison, all three will be under supervised release for an additional three years.
Their drug run came to a screeching halt on May 31, 2020, when customs agents at the Pharr Port of Entry in McAllen intercepted them while they were attempting to cross into the U.S. from Mexico. During secondary inspection, authorities discovered the meth hidden within the vehicle’s battery.
Mendoza, Sauceda, and Espinoza Jr. will remain in custody until transfer to a federal prison facility is finalized. Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Phelps handling the prosecution.
