Sandra Dumas, Attempted Bank Robbery, Louisiana 2018

A New Orleans woman has been sentenced for attempting to rob a bank in Louisiana in 2018.

Sandra Dumas, 71, was sentenced to credit for time served, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Dumas entered the Liberty Bank located at 7200 Crowder Boulevard on April 23, 2018, while in possession of a Crown Royal bag and claimed her granddaughter was being held hostage by a man who threatened to harm her granddaughter if Dumas did not get money from the bank.

Dumas fabricated a story about being in possession of a bomb that was contained within the Crown Royal bag, causing bank employees to contact the New Orleans Police Department.

No money was taken from the bank during the attempted robbery, and Dumas fled the scene.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department.

This case is being prosecuted by Brittany Reed of the Violent Crime/Strike Force Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
