Santiago Delfierro Anguiano, Attempting to Obtain Contraband in Prison, Louisiana 2020

Alexandria, LA – In a shocking turn of events, 50-year-old federal inmate Santiago Delfierro Anguiano, a/k/a ‘Shag’, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to obtain contraband in prison.

The sentencing, which took place on January 16, 2020, was handed down by United States District Judge Dee D. Drell. This sentence will run consecutive to the 30-month federal sentence Anguiano is currently serving for Illegal Re-entry of a Removed Alien.

Evidence introduced at the hearing revealed that in March 2016 while serving as a federal inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pollock, Louisiana, Anguiano conspired with others to attempt to obtain methamphetamine in FCC Pollock. Anguiano knew that the methamphetamine was an illegal substance and that he was prohibited from having it.

The 97% pure methamphetamine was seized in a vehicle driven by a co-defendant in this case during a traffic stop in Woodworth, Louisiana, on March 31, 2016 before making its way into the prison. The seized methamphetamine was tested at the DEA South Central Laboratory.

The FBI and Louisiana State Police conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy prosecuted the case.

Anguiano will serve a total of 10 years in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of attempting to obtain contraband in prison.
