A federal jury in St. Paul, Minnesota has delivered a guilty verdict in a firearms case against Santos Gomez Perez, a 65-year-old Mexican national.
The conviction stems from the discovery of 11 firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories in a metal cabinet at an auto body shop in Minneapolis. The search was conducted on March 14, 2019, and Perez, an employee at the shop, was taken into custody.
According to the evidence presented at trial, Perez admitted to taking care of the guns. However, as a Mexican national living in the United States illegally, he is barred from possessing a firearm at any time.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Minneapolis Police Department, and the St. Paul Police Department.
The trial was presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Eric C. Tostrud and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Hollenhorst.
Perez’s conviction comes as a result of the efforts of law enforcement agencies working together to combat firearms-related crimes. As Perez is an illegal alien, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm at any time, making his actions a serious offense.
