Federal prosecutors have leveled a fusillade of charges at Leng Lee, 35, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, in what amounts to a one-man arms bazaar. The Sarcoxie gun sleaze has been indicted for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and the sinister devices designed to transform semi-automatic pistols into automatic machine guns.
According to the Department of Justice’s USAO, Lee faced a federal grand jury on Wednesday, June 12, and was hit with a three-count superseding indictment. The new charges include possession of a device intended to convert a Glock pistol into an automatic weapon, as well as illegal possession of an unregistered silencer. His earlier transgression of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition remains intact.
Law enforcement’s investigation zeroed in on Lee after they intercepted an international mail package from China containing seven parts for converting a Glock semi-automatic pistol into full-automatic mode. Upon executing a search warrant at his residence, authorities uncovered a arsenal that included multiple firearms, ammunition, silencers, and a stash of drugs. Lee, who has a history of felony convictions, claimed the firearms were either gifts or purchased at gun shows, none from licensed dealers.
Despite Lee’s claims of innocence until proven guilty, his past record speaks volumes: prior felony convictions for burglary, vandalism, criminal conspiracy, grand theft, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His legal troubles are compounded by the latest charges.
The case is a collaborative effort between various federal agencies including Homeland Security Investigations, ATF, USPS, and the Newton, Mo., Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney is handling the prosecution of this grim case.
As Lee stands accused, the grimy truth about his alleged arsenal will be revealed in court, where a jury will weigh the evidence and decide his fate. Until then, Sarcoxie’s streets are a little safer, but its residents’ trust in the law may never be quite the same.
