NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A Texas man has been sentenced for his role in a large-scale cocaine trafficking operation in Louisiana. Saul Macedo-Rodriguez, a 38-year-old resident of Texas, was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment for his crimes on April 30, 2025.
According to court documents, Macedo-Rodriguez and his co-conspirators distributed multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin within the Eastern District of Louisiana. The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration – New Orleans Field Division Office, found that Macedo-Rodriguez was involved in the distribution of large quantities of these illicit substances.
Macedo-Rodriguez was also ordered to pay a $200 mandatory special assessment fee as part of his sentence. He will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term is complete.
The investigation into Macedo-Rodriguez and his co-conspirators was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration – New Orleans Field Division Office, and assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Border Patrol, the Gretna Major Crimes Task Force, the Kenner Police Department, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the St. John’s Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the New Orleans Police Department.
Macedo-Rodriguez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, five kilograms or more of cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit.
The sentencing of Macedo-Rodriguez is a significant blow to the organized crime networks that have been operating in the region. The investigation and subsequent prosecution of Macedo-Rodriguez and his co-conspirators demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to disrupting and dismantling these networks.
