Maurice Williams, a 23-year-old Savannah man, has been sentenced to more than 35 years in prison for his role in a machinegun and drug trafficking operation. Williams, also known as ‘Bando,’ was convicted of multiple counts of firearm and drug-related crimes, including possession of a machinegun and intent to distribute oxycodone and marijuana. The investigation, which began in September 2023, involved undercover purchases of firearms and drugs, including hundreds of pills containing fentanyl. A traffic stop in September 2024 found Williams in possession of a Glock pistol with a machinegun conversion device, oxycodone, and over 300 grams of marijuana.
The undercover operation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which included controlled purchases of firearms and drugs. The investigation revealed that Williams was selling dangerous weapons, including Glock handguns equipped with machinegun conversion devices, which allow a firearm to fire multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger.
U.S. Attorney Margaret E. ‘Meg’ Heap stated that the defendant’s ‘extensive illegal activity’ would not be tolerated, and that her office is committed to ensuring that felons who terrorize the community face lengthy prison sentences. Williams pleaded guilty to additional counts of illegal possession of a machinegun and distribution of fentanyl.
The sentence, imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood, includes 421 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. With no parole in the federal system, Williams will serve the entirety of his sentence.
