HOUSTON, TEXAS – A Houston woman has been convicted of her role in a debt relief scam that victimized an individual in Georgia, the Grimy Times has learned. Savannah Rae Williams, 25, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in a scheme that saw her and her co-defendant, Nathaniel Chilo, swindle a total of $67,950.74 from unsuspecting victims.

According to the investigation, Williams and Chilo operated debt relief businesses in the Houston area under several different names, including Universal Restoration and C & N Recovery. They would promise victims that they had arranged settlements with their creditors, but in reality, the money was being used for their own benefit.

The scheme came to light when an individual in Georgia received two letters claiming that a settlement had been reached with one of his creditors, totaling $67,950.74. The individual’s wife wired the money, but neither Williams nor Chilo ever paid the creditor.

The investigation, led by the United States Secret Service, revealed that Williams and Chilo had sent a series of emails to the victim, falsely representing that settlements had been arranged. The emails were designed to convince the victim that the money was legitimate and that it should be sent to cover the settlement.

Williams and Chilo’s scheme was not limited to the individual in Georgia. The investigation revealed that they had victimized several other individuals, using the same tactics to swindle them out of thousands of dollars.

Williams faces up to 20 years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine at her sentencing hearing on August 2, 2013. Her co-defendant, Nathaniel Chilo, is currently in custody pending his sentencing hearing on June 27, 2013.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of debt relief scams and the importance of being cautious when dealing with companies that promise to help with financial difficulties. The Grimy Times urges anyone who has been victimized by debt relief scams to come forward and report their experiences.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Secret Service, with the case being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Braddock. The Grimy Times commends the efforts of law enforcement in bringing this case to justice.
