ALBANY, NEW YORK – A grim charge has been leveled against Shaun Morant, 27, of Schenectady. The feds have nailed Morant for producing and receiving child pornography.
Morant stands accused of producing and possessing explicit material involving a 10-year-old girl in January 2022, and receiving child porn featuring a 10-year-old boy between January 2020 and April 2022. These are only accusations; the defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
Should Morant be convicted, he could face up to 30 years for production charges and up to 20 years for receipt charges, according to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman.
The FBI has been hard at work on this investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss leading the prosecution under Project Safe Childhood—an initiative since May 2006 aimed at combating child exploitation online.
Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to catch predators, save victims, and bring justice to those who exploit children. For more on this mission, visit here.
This case underscores the relentless pursuit of justice in the digital age, where child exploitation has become a tragically prevalent issue.
