Chandler Whittaker, Child Pornography, New York 2024

A Schenectady man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a child pornography ring.

Chandler Whittaker, 25, was handed down the 121-month prison sentence by Chief United States District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby, who also ordered Whittaker to pay restitution to the victims of his crimes.

According to court documents, Whittaker admitted to downloading images of child pornography from the internet between July and October 2014, and in January 2016. He also admitted to possessing hundreds of images and videos of child pornography on multiple electronic devices between December 2018 and February 2019.

Whittaker’s guilty plea was part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative aimed at combating child exploitation and abuse. The case was investigated by the Rotterdam Police Department, the New York State Police, and the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

‘This sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that individuals who engage in child pornography face,’ said Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon.

Whittaker will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and will serve 20 years of supervised release.

Project Safe Childhood was launched in 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. It aims to marshal federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
