Schyler Algernon Smith, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Louisiana 2021

A Shreveport man has been sentenced to 262 months in prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Schyler Algernon Smith, 33, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. on drug trafficking charges. Smith pleaded guilty on October 21, 2021, to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The investigation into Smith’s activities began on February 7, 2019, when agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted surveillance of his associate, Ladarrell Cortrell Washington. During the surveillance, agents observed Smith delivering a package to Washington, which contained 102.9 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.

Washington, also of Shreveport, was sentenced to 63 months in prison for his role in the trafficking operation. He pleaded guilty on August 17, 2021, to distribution of methamphetamine.

The cases were investigated by the DEA and prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Cassidy.

The sentences mark a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking operation in the Shreveport area. The DEA and its partners will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these types of operations.
