Baton Rouge Man Indicted for Bank Robbery
On August 16, 2013, Scott E. Coats, a 44-year-old man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, robbed the First NBC Bank in Denham Springs, LA, taking approximately $1500.
Coats was previously convicted in 2005 of robbing a Hancock Bank in Baton Rouge on November 1, 2003, and an AmSouth Bank in Denham Springs on November 5, 2003.
According to court documents, Coats was sentenced in February 2005 to 84 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release for each robbery, to be served concurrently.
In December 2011, while on supervised release, Coats’ release was revoked for violations of the terms of his supervision and he was sentenced to an additional 24 months imprisonment.
The investigation into the bank robbery was conducted by the Denham Springs Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer M. Kleinpeter, who also serves as Deputy Criminal chief.
Coats is charged with violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a), which makes it a crime to take or attempt to take property under the custody or control of a bank by force, intimidation, or threat.
