Oshkosh Man Sentenced to 10+ Years for Attempted Child Enticement
Gregory J. Haanstad, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that on October 23, 2023, Senior United States District Judge William C. Griesbach sentenced Scott J. Meyer, a 52-year-old man from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to 130 months in federal prison for attempted child enticement.
Following his prison sentence, Meyer will serve a lifetime of supervised release.
According to court documents, in June 2021, Meyer communicated with an undercover officer who he believed was a 15-year-old girl. He requested sexually explicit photos from the girl and encouraged her to run away from home.
On July 14, 2021, Meyer planned to pick the girl up and bring her back to his residence in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the purpose of having sexual intercourse. He expressed some concern about the possibility of getting caught and sent the undercover officer a message that stated, “If I show up to meet with you and you’re not who you say you are, I’m going straight to prison for 5-10 years!”
Meyer was arrested that day.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006, by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The case was investigated by the Fox Valley Metro Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alexander E. Duros.
