Local Man Convicted of Horrific Crime
SCRANTON, PA – In a disturbing case, John Lewis Kramer, 36, of Scranton, has been found guilty of producing child pornography and attempting to intimidate a witness in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the evidence presented in court revealed that Kramer created images and videos of child pornography between March 1, 2019, and March 27, 2020. Furthermore, on January 22, 2021, Kramer sent a threatening letter to the victim’s mother, stating that he would have her arrested and imprisoned.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Scranton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts and Special Assistant United States Attorney Brian Gallagher are prosecuting the case.
Kramer faces a mandatory minimum 15-year sentence for his crimes. The maximum penalty under federal law is 30 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The Judge will consider various factors, including the nature and seriousness of the offense, when determining the sentence.
As part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to bringing perpetrators like Kramer to justice. Project Safe Childhood aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children and rescue victims.
The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of child pornography and the importance of protecting children from exploitation. The community is urged to remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activity and supporting victims of child abuse.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for such heinous crimes are held accountable. This case is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in combating child exploitation.
