Lee Wood, Cocaine Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2024

SCRANTON – The grim halls of justice were once again echoed with the sound of justice this week as Lee Wood, a 48-year-old resident of Scranton, Pennsylvania, found himself indicted by a federal grand jury for alleged cocaine trafficking.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania revealed that Wood is accused of conspiring with others to distribute and possess over 500 grams of cocaine between May 28, 2024, and August 17, 2024. The indictment also alleges that on August 8, 2024, Wood directly participated in the distribution and intended possession of cocaine.

This harrowing case was meticulously investigated by law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and the Lackawanna County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is leading the prosecution with a relentless pursuit for justice.

The charges levied against Wood are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that mobilizes the Department of Justice’s full force to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguard communities from violent crime. This operation leverages resources from OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood to streamline efforts in the fight against organized crime.

Should Wood be found guilty, the consequences are severe, with a potential sentence of life imprisonment, followed by supervised release, and a substantial fine. The final decision on sentencing will rest with the Judge after considering federal law and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

As it stands, all persons charged, including Lee Wood, are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
