A Gulfport man is behind bars after a lengthy investigation into his illegal reentry into the United States.
Sergio Rodriguez-Arevalos, 43, was arrested on December 2020 following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 by a deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Patrol.
Border Patrol agents were called in to assist and determined that Rodriguez-Arevalos was not lawfully present in the United States.
Rodriguez-Arevalos was arrested and transported to the Gulfport Border Patrol station for processing.
According to official records, Rodriguez-Arevalos had been removed from the United States three times prior to his latest arrest in 2020.
Rodriguez-Arevalos had also been convicted of multiple misdemeanor offenses, including driving under the influence, while illegally residing in the United States.
U.S. District Judge sentenced Sergio Rodriguez-Arevalos to 14 months in prison, followed by one year of supervised release, for unlawful reentry by an alien after deportation or removal.
