Turkish nationals Serif Alihan, 33, and Mustafa Kaya, 32, were arrested for their role in illegally entering the United States near the U.S.-Canada border in New Hampshire.
According to the charges, the two men were encountered by a Border Patrol Agent on February 26, 2025, near Hall Stream, a river that runs along the border between Pittsburg, New Hampshire and Canada.
The snow-covered men were found to be wet and their clothes were covered in snow, with knee-deep snow in the area. The Border Patrol Agent was able to follow the men’s footprints back to Hall Stream, where they ended on the New Hampshire side and resumed on the Canadian side.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Hunter prosecuting the case.
Alihan and Kaya were each charged with one count of illegal entry. They will appear in federal court later today.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
At this time, no further information is available regarding the status of the case or any potential sentencing.
