Richard Sevear Greene, a 58-year-old from Franklin, North Carolina, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing and attempting to distribute child sexual abuse material. Greene, a registered sex offender, used a messaging app to send videos of prepubescent minors engaging in explicit conduct to an undercover FBI investigator in February 2025. Despite prior convictions for third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, Greene continued to engage in this heinous crime, earning him a lengthy prison sentence.
Greene’s actions were uncovered by an FBI investigator working undercover, who began communicating with him on the messaging app. Over the course of their conversations, Greene sent the investigator multiple videos depicting child sex abuse material. He was arrested on March 27, 2025, and subsequently admitted to possessing and distributing the material.
In court, Judge Reidinger noted that Greene had ‘doubled down’ on his previous crimes, engaging in even more serious and harmful behavior. The judge stated that Greene’s conduct clearly shows he is a danger to the community and has not been deterred by prior convictions and sentences. As a result, Greene was sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.
Greene is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to a federal facility to serve his sentence. His case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child sex abuse material and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat this heinous crime.
