Harold White Hat, a 42-year-old Sioux Falls man, has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender. This crime occurred in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. White Hat had previously been convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact in May 2022 and was required to register as a sex offender. However, he failed to update his registration after leaving his residence in Sioux Falls, leading to his arrest on November 17, 2025.

White Hat pleaded guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender on February 25, 2026. His sentencing took place on June 22, 2026, and he was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
