Eugene Leon Featherman, a 37-year-old Sioux Falls man, has been sentenced to 1 year and 11 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender. Featherman, who was previously convicted of a federal sex offense, knowingly failed to register and update his registration from late June through September 2025. The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Connie Larson.
Featherman pleaded guilty on April 7, 2026, and was sentenced by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange on June 15, 2026. In addition to his prison time, Featherman will serve 5 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet and to identify and rescue victims.
Featherman’s failure to register as a sex offender is a serious offense, and his sentencing reflects the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting the public from sex offenders.
