Waterbury Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Lying to Federal Agents

A Waterbury man has been sentenced to 2 years in federal prison for lying to federal agents investigating gang violence in the city.

SHAN THOMPSON, 25, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to 24 months of imprisonment, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for making false statements to FBI special agents about a shooting incident in Waterbury.

According to court documents, Thompson made false statements to FBI agents about the shooting incident on November 22, 2017, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

Thompson has been detained in state custody since February 2018. He pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of making a false statement to a government agent on February 2, 2023.

The investigation into gang violence in Waterbury is being conducted by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force, ATF, and Waterbury Police Department, with the assistance of the Watertown Police Department, New Milford Police Department, and Connecticut Department of Correction.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Geoffrey M. Stone, John T. Pierpont, Jr., and Natasha M. Freismuth, and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Don E. Therkildesen and Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Alexandra Arroyo of the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office, who have been cross-designated as Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys in this matter.

The prosecution is part of the Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) programs.
