A federal jury in Sioux Falls, South Dakota has convicted 37-year-old Shane Mousseaux of Rosebud of three counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact.
The verdict was returned on April 18, 2024, following a three-day jury trial in federal district court.
Mousseaux, who lived on the Yankton Sioux Reservation with his then-girlfriend and her children, was accused of engaging in multiple sexual acts with one of his then-girlfriend’s daughter between August 6, 2020, and June 21, 2022, when she was 14-15 years old.
He was also accused of engaging in sexual contact with another one of his then-girlfriend’s daughter between May 1, 2022, and June 21, 2022, when she was 14 years old.
The charges of Sexual Abuse of a Minor carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, up to life of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charges of Abusive Sexual Contact carry a maximum penalty of two years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, up to life of life of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Mousseaux was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2022 and was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
A presentence investigation has been ordered and a sentencing date has been set for July 19, 2024.
