QUINCY, ILLINOIS – A Quincy man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in the city.
Sharnell Washington, 25, was handed a 12-year 7-month prison sentence by Senior U.S. District Judge Richard Mills for his involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine in Quincy in 2020. This is Washington’s second conviction for trafficking methamphetamine, with the first conviction dating back to 2016.
According to court documents, Washington was found responsible for approximately 46.84 grams of pure meth, also known as ‘ice,’ and an additional two grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine. His arrest occurred in March 2020, and he has remained in law enforcement custody since that time.
Washington pleaded guilty on January 27, 2021, to the distribution of methamphetamine. His prior convictions, including a 2016 conviction for aggravated battery to a child, were taken into consideration during the sentencing process.
The case was investigated by the West Central Illinois Task Force, Illinois State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory M. Gilmore represented the government in the prosecution, working in cooperation with the Office of Adams County State’s Attorney Gary Farha.
As a result of the sentencing, Washington will spend the next 12 years 7 months behind bars for his role in the methamphetamine trafficking operation. This serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that individuals can face for their involvement in such activities.
