Shatner Lewis, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Louisiana 2022

BATON ROUGE, LA – Shatner Lewis, a 35-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 35 months in federal prison for his conviction of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. This sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson.

According to admissions made by Lewis as part of his guilty plea, on December 5, 2022, Lewis was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation by a Baton Rouge Police officer. During a search of the vehicle, a Taurus G3c 9mm pistol with a fully-loaded twelve-round magazine was found. Lewis admitted that the firearm belonged to him.

This is not the first time for Lewis to be involved with the law. In 2021, prior to possessing the firearm, Lewis was convicted of manslaughter and attempted armed robbery in East Baton Rouge Parish. He was still on parole for those convictions when he was found in possession of the pistol in December.

The matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Baton Rouge Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ben Wallace.

Shatner Lewis, the defendant/respondent, is a convicted felon with a history of violent crimes. He was convicted of manslaughter and attempted armed robbery in East Baton Rouge Parish in 2021.
