Shawn Price, a 28-year-old regional leader of the Proud Boys from Rockaway Township, New Jersey, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for interfering with law enforcement officers during the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.
According to court documents, Price was a member of the Proud Boys and served as vice president of his local chapter. He traveled to Washington with 10-12 other members of the chapter, where they illegally entered the restricted area of the Capitol grounds, ignoring police officers in riot gear and chemical irritants in the air.
Even after being hit in the chest by a rubber bullet and sprayed with tear gas, Price was not deterred. He filmed a confrontation with law enforcement officers taking place on the Lower West Terrace, using profanities as he screamed at the officers, calling them ‘traitors,’ ‘cowards,’ and ‘scumbags.’
Price was arrested on June 8, 2021. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Newark and Washington Field Offices, with valuable assistance provided by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.
In the 26 months since January 6, 2021, more than 1,000 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 320 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
