Shawn Rene Lussier Pleads Guilty to Domestic Assault as Habitual Offender

In a shocking turn of events, Shawn Rene Lussier, a 55-year-old Red Lake man, has plead guilty to violently assaulting an individual at the Seven Clans Casino on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

According to court documents, in the late evening of April 9, 2023, Lussier physically assaulted the victim in a hotel room by repeatedly punching and kicking the individual. The assault caused serious bodily injury to the victim, including a bloody lip, a one-inch laceration to the scalp that required stitches and left a scar, and other body bruises, and caused over $450.00 in property damage to the hotel room.

Lussier has a history of domestic violence, with several Tribal Court convictions for Criminal Domestic Violence involving domestic assaults committed on separate occasions between May 2017 and December 2021.

The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Red Lake Police Department and the FBI.

Lussier plead guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court before Judge Michael J. Davis to one count of domestic assault by a habitual offender. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Bejar is prosecuting the case.

Lussier’s guilty plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement and a step towards justice for the victim. The community can only hope that this conviction will serve as a deterrent to others who would commit such heinous crimes.
