Buffalo Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Racketeering and Fentanyl Trafficking
Shawn Woods, also known as Pif, a 30-year-old Buffalo resident, was sentenced to 144 months in prison for his role in the CBL/BFL Gang’s racketeering conspiracy and fentanyl trafficking operation.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, Woods was convicted of racketeering conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. He was one of 12 defendants charged in the case.
The CBL/BFL Gang, which stands for ‘Cash Been Long’ and ‘Brothers for Life,’ was formed around 2009 and operated primarily in the City of Buffalo at the Towne Gardens Housing Complex. The gang used violence, including murder and attempted murder, threats, and intimidation to defend their territory against rivals and anyone deemed a threat to the gang.
Woods admitted to possessing and selling controlled substances at various times and was found to have possessed three firearms, ammunition, metal spoons, digital scales, grinders, kilogram presses, and quantities of heroin and fentanyl on February 1, 2017.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Buffalo Police Department, the New York State Police, the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, the Cheektowaga Police Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Lackawanna Police Department.
Woods’ sentence is the latest development in the ongoing effort to disrupt and dismantle organized crime groups in Western New York. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in racketeering and narcotics trafficking.
