Shelby Adams, a 26-year-old Morgantown woman, has admitted to making a false statement during the purchase of firearms in April 2021 in Marion County, West Virginia.
In a plea deal, Adams pleaded guilty to one count of False Statement During Purchase of Firearm, a federal charge that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Adams made false statements to illegally purchase firearms in April 2021 in Marion County. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the proceeding.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Adams faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. Her exact sentence will be determined by the court after considering the severity of the offense and her prior record.
Shelby Adams, the defendant, is a resident of Morgantown, West Virginia. The crime occurred in Marion County, West Virginia, in April 2021.
