Grimy Times – In a chilling twist of justice, Sheldon Thomson, 36, from Norwich, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possessing child sex abuse material. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery for the District of Connecticut.
Thomson, who identifies as female, was previously convicted of sexual assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a child in 2007. She served her time and began probation in November 2015. However, a May 2022 search of her property turned up over 100 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, including prepubescent victims.
The case took a darker turn when Thomson pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on October 31, 2023. The enhanced penalties were due to her prior convictions for sexual assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor.
HSI investigated the case with assistance from the State of Connecticut Office of Adult Probation, leading to the prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings. This prosecution is part of the DOJ’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Thomson faces additional sentencing in state court for violating his probation. The gritty nature of this case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child pornography and exploitation in our digital age.
