Shiloh Man Sentenced to 12+ Years for Double Gas Station Robbery
A Shiloh man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for his role in two brazen armed robberies at a local gas station. Michael L. Jackson, III, 21, was sentenced to 148 months in federal prison, 5 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $300 special assessment and $917 in restitution for his crimes.
The robberies took place at Midwest Petroleum in Shiloh in December 2011 and March 2014. In both incidents, the suspect, later identified as Jackson, entered the store wearing a ski mask and brandishing either a knife or a firearm. The clerk was unable to identify the robber due to the mask.
However, investigators from the Shiloh Police Department were able to piece together the evidence and identify Jackson as the culprit. They found clothing discarded by the robber in a field adjacent to the gas station after each robbery, and the Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory found Jackson’s DNA on the clothing.
The investigation, led by the Shiloh Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, revealed that Jackson’s voice was also matched to the surveillance videos from the robberies. Assistant United States Attorney Laura V. Reppert and Special Assistant United States Attorney Emily Wasserman prosecuted the case.
Donald S. Boyce, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced the sentencing, stating that Jackson’s crimes demonstrate a blatant disregard for the safety of others. The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
The sentence is a result of the United States Attorney’s Armed Robbery Initiative, which aims to combat armed robberies and related crimes in the Southern District of Illinois.
Shiloh residents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the perpetrator of these heinous crimes will be behind bars for over a decade.
