Seattle — A registered sex offender with a history of exploiting the vulnerable has been brought to justice, sentenced to 66 months in prison for possessing images of child sexual abuse.
Bruce Arthur Williamson, 59, of Shoreline, Washington, was handed down the prison term by U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones in a Seattle courtroom. This bleak sentence is a culmination of Williamson’s repeated crimes against minors, which have left a trail of destruction in their wake.
According to court documents, Williamson came to the attention of federal law enforcement in October 2019 after communicating with an undercover agent in Tennessee regarding images of child sexual abuse. A subsequent investigation revealed that Williamson had shared a residence in Shoreline with other sex offenders, a fact that only adds to the severity of his crimes.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Jones minced no words in expressing his disgust at Williamson’s actions. ‘Young children are not pieces of candy in a dish that you get to pick to violate… You participated in a market that makes it a dangerous place for children,’ he said. Judge Jones also raised concerns over Williamson’s failure to register as a sex offender, despite a prior conviction and treatment. This disregard for the law only serves to underscore Williamson’s callous disregard for the well-being of his victims.
The FBI executed a federal search warrant on Williamson’s residence in May 2020, which led to the discovery of various electronic devices containing images of child sexual abuse. Williamson fled the scene, only to be apprehended in November 2023 while living homeless. His guilty plea in February 2024 also resolved a state charge of failing to register as a sex offender.
Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson spoke to the severity of Williamson’s crimes, stating that ‘those who collect and share images and videos of children being assaulted further a market that thrives on the sexual abuse of children.’ Her words drive home the devastating impact of child exploitation, which leaves a lasting scar on the lives of its victims.
The FBI investigated this case, with Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Y. Gregson securing Williamson’s conviction. This sentence serves as a stark reminder that those who commit such heinous crimes will face the full weight of the law.
