Warren Chewiwi, a 52-year-old Bosque Farms man, was caught with a 12-gauge shotgun and shells on the Isleta Pueblo on July 15, 2024. Chewiwi’s prior convictions for felonies and crimes of domestic violence made it illegal for him to possess a firearm. With a history of violent behavior, Chewiwi’s actions raised red flags, prompting an investigation by the Isleta Pueblo Police Department.
Chewiwi’s rap sheet includes multiple felony convictions in New Mexico and at the federal level, as well as four misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence on the Isleta Pueblo. These convictions prohibit him from lawfully possessing a gun, making his possession of the shotgun a serious offense.
As a result of his guilty plea, Chewiwi will face three years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones, with the announcement made by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison.
The conviction highlights the importance of enforcing gun laws and keeping firearms out of the hands of individuals with a history of violence. The Isleta Pueblo Police Department’s investigation and the US Attorney’s Office prosecution demonstrate a commitment to public safety and holding offenders accountable.
