Tevin King, a 33-year-old Albuquerque man, was at the center of a high-speed pursuit through multiple New Mexico cities on August 19, 2024. The chase began when King, who was the subject of an active federal arrest warrant for a supervised release violation, fled from law enforcement in a black Malibu. As agents followed, King discarded a canvas tote bag containing approximately 16,000 fentanyl pills near Eastern New Mexico University.
The pursuit, which spanned several cities including Hobbs and Portales, ended in Clovis when King’s vehicle collided with a law enforcement unit. King was arrested and later convicted of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The conviction came after a four-day trial, and King now faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations El Paso, with assistance from the US Marshals Service and local law enforcement. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking in New Mexico and the dangers posed by high-speed pursuits.
King’s arrest and conviction serve as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement collaboration and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against drug trafficking. As the case moves forward to sentencing, King remains in custody, awaiting the outcome of his sentencing hearing.
