Four hundred and eighty individuals attempted to cross the US-Mexico border into New Mexico in the two weeks ending April 24, 2026, with 381 charged with various immigration crimes.
The charges range from illegal reentry after deportation to alien smuggling and illegal entry, with some defendants having prior convictions for serious crimes like sexual assault and narcotics trafficking.
These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.
Many of the defendants were charged with violating military security regulations and entering military property in the newly established National Defense Area in New Mexico.
