In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Simon Calvin Simms Hiatt, 46, of Parker, AZ, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution ring.
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Steven P. Logan handed down a 108-month prison sentence, followed by four years of supervised release, to Hiatt, who had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The arrest of Hiatt occurred on November 19, 2018, during a traffic stop by officers from the Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department in Parker, AZ. During a search of the passenger’s clothing, a digital scale containing a white powdery substance was discovered. A subsequent search of Hiatt’s vehicle revealed more than half a pound of methamphetamine and a loaded firearm.
Hiatt, an enrolled member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes, was found to be in possession of a significant amount of illicit narcotics, further highlighting the severity of the offense.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department. Prosecution was handled by Christina J. Reid-Moore, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
