Sioux Falls Man Indicted for Sex Offender Registration Failure

Brendan V. Johnson, United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota, announced today that Jeremy Jeunesse, a/k/a Jeremy Chasing Horse, a/k/a Jeremy Trudell, age 33, of Sioux Falls, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly failing to register as a convicted sex offender in Pennington County on September 1, 2012.

The indictment, handed down on February 20, 2013, charges Jeunesse with one count of failure to register as a sex offender, a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation and Jeunesse is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, which is conducting the investigation, Jeunesse failed to register as a sex offender as required by federal law. The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Jeunesse on May 30, 2013, and he appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy, who remanded him to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

A trial date has been set for August 6, 2013. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota.

Sioux Falls residents are shocked by the indictment, with many calling for stricter laws to prevent sex offenders from evading registration.

Jeunesse’s indictment serves as a reminder of the importance of sex offender registration and the consequences of failing to comply with federal and state laws.
