Skeeter Eugene Weeks, a 41-year-old resident of Pelham, Georgia, was sentenced to serve 188 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute nearly one kilogram of methamphetamine.
Weeks, who has a lengthy criminal history in Southwest Georgia, was found guilty of the crime after a high-speed chase on Interstate 75 on September 12, 2021. The chase, which reached speeds of over 90 mph, ended with Weeks crashing his motorcycle and attempting to flee on foot.
According to court documents, Weeks was driving a motorcycle with a suspended license and had several active warrants at the time of his arrest. In addition to the methamphetamine, police found a semi-automatic pistol in a cross-body bag that Weeks was wearing.
Weeks’ criminal past includes convictions for burglary, harassing phone calls, manufacturing methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Chief Leah McEwen is prosecuting the case.
“The defendant’s high-speed attempt to evade capture endangered himself, responding law enforcement and other drivers,” said U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary. “Individuals with lengthy criminal histories who continue to disregard the law will be held accountable.”
Weeks will serve 188 months in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The sentence serves as a warning to those who continue to disregard the law and engage in high-risk behavior, said Leary. “We will continue to work tirelessly to hold individuals accountable for their actions and keep our communities safe.”
