SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Angel Jesus Sanchez-Manriquez, 22, of Stockton, will spend over eleven years behind bars after being sentenced today for the brutal exploitation of a minor. U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley handed down a sentence of 11 years and three months in prison for sex trafficking of a child, a conviction secured by Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert’s office.
Court records paint a chilling picture of Sanchez-Manriquez’s depravity. Between October and December 2020, he brazenly advertised the 16-year-old victim on a website, posting roughly 70 advertisements featuring photos of her. These ads explicitly offered the victim for commercial sex acts. Disturbingly, Sanchez-Manriquez referred to the girl as his “Snow Bunny,” reducing her to a commodity in his twisted scheme.
The exploitation didn’t end online. Sanchez-Manriquez rented motel rooms throughout the Stockton area where he forced the victim to engage in sex acts. Law enforcement, executing search warrants, uncovered further evidence of his abuse. Agents found that Sanchez-Manriquez used his cellphone to create a disturbing archive of the victim’s exploitation – photographs and videos of her being sexually abused by adults, including himself.
“The pop-culture imagery of sex work is a far cry from the realities of human trafficking cases like these,” stated Sean Ragan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Sacramento Field Office. “Every day, adults and minors are marketed and sold to paying customers by exploiters who control and profit from every aspect of the illegal transactions.” Ragan emphasized the FBI’s commitment to tirelessly pursuing these cases, rescuing victims, and bringing perpetrators to justice. He also highlighted the crucial role of victim services in helping survivors break the cycle of abuse.
This case was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian A. Fogerty and Sam Stefanki leading the prosecution. The conviction is a result of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation. The project mobilizes federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on children, and to provide support to victims.
