A 72-year-old Hilton Head man is facing serious charges after being accused of wire fraud and misprision of a felony. Donald Christy, 72, was charged in a six-count information with the crimes, which are violations of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1343 and 4.
The maximum penalty for Christy’s crimes is 20 years imprisonment. The case was investigated by agents of the FBI and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Rhett DeHart of the Charleston office for prosecution.
Misprision of a felony is a lesser-known crime that involves the concealment of a felony. In this case, Christy and his co-defendant, Lisa Arnold, 48, of Walterboro, allegedly concealed a felony that was committed by someone else.
The exact nature of the felony that was concealed is not clear at this time. However, the fact that Christy and Arnold are facing serious charges suggests that the crime was significant.
Christy and Arnold were both charged in a six-count information, which is a document that outlines the charges against them. The information was filed in a federal court and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina.
The investigation into Christy and Arnold’s crimes was conducted by the FBI, which is a federal law enforcement agency. The FBI is responsible for investigating a wide range of crimes, including wire fraud and misprision of a felony.
