South Dakota Man Knight Held for Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

GRIM NEWS: William George Knight, a 37-year-old from Rapid City, South Dakota, has been slammed with serious charges for his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach. Knight is accused of not just disrupting the joint session of Congress to count electoral votes but also assaulting law enforcement on the scene.

The man known as Knight faces a litany of charges including obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers—both are felony offenses. To add insult to injury, he’s been hit with five misdemeanors for actions like entering restricted grounds and acts of physical violence.

The FBI nabbed Knight in Rapid City on May 26, 2024, and he is due in court today in the District of South Dakota. Court documents paint a picture of Knight as a troublemaker at the “Stop the Steal” rally, where he reportedly showed his true colors by aggressively approaching police lines and mocking officers with offensive gestures.

According to the grim details, Knight was one of the first to breach Capitol grounds, using his strength to pull bike rack barriers from police lines. His defiance only grew as the afternoon wore on, culminating in a confrontation where he rammed a sign into police and shouted threats at officers.

Despite being part of a crowd that eventually breached the Lower West Plaza, Knight was among those who held their ground for nearly two hours. Now, he will face justice for his actions during one of the most notorious days in American history.

This case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, showcasing the serious nature of the charges brought against Knight.
