South Dakota Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Meth Conspiracy
SIUX FALLS – A ruthless scheme to flood the streets with methamphetamine has been dealt a major blow, with a South Dakota woman sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for her role in the conspiracy.
According to court records, Anita M. Kenyon, 41, of Harrison, South Dakota, was sentenced on April 15, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Kenyon’s accomplice, Deena Lee Rodriguez, 43, of Sacramento, California, was sentenced on May 25, 2023, to eight years and one month in federal prison.
Kenyon and Rodriguez were indicted in August 2022 for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. Rodriguez pleaded guilty on March 14, 2023, while Kenyon pleaded guilty on July 19, 2023. The duo’s sinister plot involved Rodriguez sending packages containing methamphetamine from California to Kenyon in South Dakota via the U.S. Postal Service.
Investigations revealed that Kenyon and Rodriguez were responsible for distributing approximately three quarters of a pound of methamphetamine. A suspicious package was seized by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, leading investigators to uncover the pair’s involvement in the conspiracy.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. The sentences handed down to Kenyon and Rodriguez are a stark reminder that those who engage in such reckless and destructive behavior will be held accountable.
Kenyon was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, in addition to her 10-year prison sentence. Rodriguez was ordered to pay the same amount as a special assessment. Both women were immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after their respective sentencings.
The case is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in bringing to justice those who seek to harm their communities through illicit activities.
