South Florida Man Charged in Debit Card Fraud Scheme
A 29-year-old man from Biscayne Bay has been charged with a series of financial crimes in South Florida.
Kency Aime, 29, has been indicted on one count of access device fraud and nine counts of identity theft, according to a federal indictment.
The indictment alleges that Aime possessed 34 stolen MasterCard and Visa debit cards, as well as the Social Security numbers of nine individuals.
According to the indictment, Aime could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison for the fraud count, and up to 5 years in prison for each identity theft count, if convicted.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Florida Highway Patrol, and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
Kency Aime is scheduled to face trial at a later date, but his arrest marks a significant blow to a suspected identity theft ring in South Florida.
The indictment serves as a reminder that identity theft and debit card fraud can have severe consequences, and that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to protect citizens from financial crimes.
