South Park Pervert Sentenced to 11 Years for Distributing Child Porn

A 66-year-old South Park resident, Michael Moran, has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Moran was sentenced on June 3, 2024, in federal court by Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer after he pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2022.

According to information presented to the court, Moran uploaded over 200 images of child sexual assault material to Flickr/SmugMug in August 2018. Following a subsequent investigation by the FBI and Allegheny County Police, the Western Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at Moran’s South Park residence, seizing multiple computers, tablets, phones, hard drives, and other electronic equipment.

Law enforcement officers discovered that many of these devices contained child sexual abuse material, including photos and videos. The investigation further revealed that Moran had publicly posted sexually explicit images of minors to his Flickr accounts, which were then marked as favorites by other users.

Before imposing the sentence, Judge Fischer noted the seriousness of Moran’s conduct and highlighted the harsh penalties Congress has implemented for child pornography offenses. She also emphasized that the use of computers makes the crime easier to commit but more challenging for the public to detect.

Additionally, the judge considered Moran’s admission of having sexually assaulted a minor with autism decades earlier.

Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Brown prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Allegheny County Police Department for their investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of Moran.

The sentence of 130 months of incarceration, followed by seven years of supervised release, serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes.

Moran’s case is a disturbing example of the dangers posed by individuals who prey on vulnerable children and the importance of continued efforts to combat child exploitation.
