A Spencer man is headed to federal prison for over a decade after being caught with a massive stash of methamphetamine.
Todd Williams, 57, from Spencer, Iowa, pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine in November 2023, and was sentenced to 158 months’ imprisonment, or just over 13 years.
The evidence against Williams was clear: on March 4, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence in Spencer, Iowa, after receiving information that he was possessing and selling methamphetamine.
During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement seized approximately 2.7 pounds of methamphetamine and approximately $50,000 in cash. Williams was not present during the search, but was later spotted by law enforcement driving by, leading to a short pursuit that ended in his arrest.
Williams was driving at speeds of up to 100mph before being stopped and taken into custody. He is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
Williams’ case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Jack Lammers and Patrick Greenwood, and investigated by the Spencer Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Estherville Police Department, the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa DCI Laboratory.
Williams will also have to serve an 8-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
