Thornton Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Spirit Airlines Flight Attendant
Denver, CO – A disturbing incident on a Spirit Airlines flight has led to a guilty plea and sentence for a Colorado man. Evan Nathaniel Castle, 24, of Thornton, pleaded guilty to and was sentenced for misdemeanor assault of a Spirit Airlines flight attendant.
According to court documents, on April 8, 2013, Castle was a passenger on Spirit Airlines Flight 562 en route from Las Vegas, Nevada to Denver International Airport. During the flight, Castle was served several alcoholic drinks. He then became loud and used profane language, and he physically harassed one of the flight attendants.
The incident occurred while the flight was underway, and Castle’s behavior caused concern for the safety of the other passengers and crew members. The flight attendant who was targeted by Castle’s harassment was subjected to physical and verbal abuse.
Castle was sentenced to serve 2 years’ probation and ordered to attend alcohol counseling by U.S. Magistrate Judge Craig B. Shaffer. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James Allison, Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment on all flights. Airlines and flight attendants work tirelessly to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers, and incidents like this one are a stark reminder of the challenges they face.
The guilty plea and sentence handed down to Castle is a measure of justice for the flight attendant who was subjected to his harassment. It also serves as a warning to others who may engage in similar behavior on flights.
As the airline industry continues to grow and evolve, incidents like this one highlight the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between airlines, law enforcement, and passengers to ensure a safe and respectful travel experience for all.
